The Samba Boys are Mtn elite One Champions in Cameroon

They moved into the Mtn Elite one just last season and had a very positive rookie campaign. They took everybody by surprise during the first part of the championship by coming up second to Cotonsports of Garoua. They ran out of steam though during the second part of the campaign and finished the season just a number of teams above the relegations zone.
When the current championship season began a lot of people placed their money on Cotonsport of Garoua who had been champions for the last six seasons running to continue their championship run.
The Samba boys though had their own ideas, edging out Union Sportive of Douala at the break with 26 points on goal differences.A key decision was handed down by Fecafoot(Cameroon's football governing body) that met behind closed doors and reversed a one nil defeat of the club in Menoua by Aigle.Aigle had fielded an ineligible player during the encounter and end up losing the three points to Tiko United. They lost just one game during the first half of the campaign to Panthere of Bangante by one goal to nil, a lost that they revenge on the fifth day of play during the second half of the competition by one goal to nil. There were some key victories including a one nil defeat of Astre of Douala in the newly renovated reunification stadium on the fourth day during the second half of the championship. On day 19 they went to Bafang and beat Unisport by one goal to nil.

I watched the team play a number of games during the first part of the campaign at their local ground,a place call the towngreen. They defeated Danay FC of Yagoua by two goals to one and Canon of Younde by a come from behind three goals to two thriller. The team is built on a very solid defense and most of their victories are in the one nil-category.By winning the MTN elite one championship they become the first team from the Anglophone part of the country to do so in the history of Cameroonian football. So this is indeed a very big deal.On match day 20 they tied 0-0 with Aigle of Dschang. On match day 21 they beat first half rival Union Sportive of Douala by 3goals to one moving them 10 points clear of rival Cotonsport of Garoua with just five more games to go to the end of the championship.
They had to wait until the second to last day of the campaign to tie University Club of Ngaoundere by one nil though to be official declared champions of the elite league in Cameroon.
